My old Carnival of Souls mucker George Apsion is planning to take us into Kore Studios in late April, to record some of the tunes I've been cooking up with the Body Doubles in the last few months. Alongside band versions of tracks from Tricks Of The Light and The Long Way Round we'll be laying down new songs 'Goodbye Again', 'When You Get Home' and 'The Empty Quarter'; we have one more in the works, one of Claud's which is tentatively titled 'Hangover Song', so we'll see if we can get that together in time.
I'd like to take the approach of setting everything up beforehand and playing the tracks through as fast as we can, in order to get as close as possible to the atmosphere of a gig - this can be a dangerous approach in the studio but Sgt. Pepper it ain't, and I think we can get away with the odd mistake as long as the vibe is there.
Since my last post I've done acoustic gigs with Claud and Julia at the Coden Club and the Pelican; I'm back at the Pelican on April Fools Day supporting the Rotten Hill Gang, which may or may not include the great Mick Jones but will certainly include another old Soul, Gus Robertson. It'll be a pleasure to gig with him again.
As for the full band lineup: we did an epic two-hour gig at the Fox & Duck in February, and I'm currently arranging to get us back there for more live mayhem on 7th May - by which time we should have new band recordings hot off the press. Keep watching the skies.
